Egyptian footballer Omar Sayed Moawad has set his sights on earning a place in Real Betis’ first team following his recent move from Al Ahly. The 18-year-old, who made the switch to the Spanish club’s youth setup, expressed his gratitude to Al Ahly for the role they played in his development and the support they offered throughout his journey.
In an interview with Al Ahly TV, Moawad reflected on his time at the Cairo-based club, describing it as an invaluable learning experience.
He acknowledged the importance of playing for one of Africa’s most prestigious teams and credited Al Ahly with shaping his early career.
“I am grateful to Al Ahly for their unwavering support and everything they have done for me,” Moawad said. “Playing for the biggest club in Africa has taught me a lot, and I will always value the lessons I’ve learned there.”
The young midfielder also opened up about the challenges he has faced in his career so far, particularly the difficult period following a severe injury.
Moawad suffered a torn ACL, an injury that not only affected his physical fitness but also took a toll on his mental health.
He spoke candidly about overcoming the depression he experienced during his recovery.
“I faced a lot of challenges, especially after my ACL tear,” he shared. “It was a tough time for me mentally, but I believe that everything happens for a reason, and God always does what is best.”
Despite these obstacles, Moawad has emerged stronger and more determined.
With his injury behind him, he is now fully focused on his future at Real Betis.
He praised Al Ahly’s board, with a special mention to club president Mahmoud El Khatib, for facilitating his transfer to the La Liga side, a move he sees as the next big step in his career.
“I want to thank the Al Ahly board, and especially Mahmoud El Khatib, for their help in making this transfer to Real Betis possible,” Moawad said.
While he will begin his journey with the Betis youth team, Moawad is determined to break into the senior squad.
He emphasized his commitment to working hard and making the most of his opportunities in Spain, with the ultimate goal of reaching the first team.
“I’m joining the youth side at Real Betis, but I will do my best to play for the first team,” he vowed. “I hope to make a name for myself here and, in the future, secure an even bigger transfer.”
As Moawad embarks on his new chapter at Real Betis, the young Egyptian is optimistic about what lies ahead and is focused on realizing his dreams in European football.
