Olympiakos pursues Ounahi despite French transfer window closure
Despite the closure of the French transfer window on September 30, Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi remains hopeful of securing a move. Although his efforts to find a new club this summer have so far been unsuccessful, there is renewed interest from Olympiakos.
Ounahi, who was sidelined by Olympique de Marseille (OM), had previously explored opportunities in Qatar.
However, the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) opposed this transfer, deeming it premature for the Gulf region.
As a result, the 25-year-old’s quest for a new destination seemed to stall as major European leagues wrapped up their transfer dealings.
Yet, according to Moroccan media outlet Le360 Sport, Olympiakos has emerged as a potential suitor.
The Greek club is reportedly keen on adding Ounahi to its squad before September 4, aiming to include him in their UEFA Europa League roster for the upcoming season.
The specifics of the transfer deal remain unclear, but Le360 Sport suggests that a decision from Olympiakos is expected imminently.
In addition to Ounahi, Olympiakos is also reportedly interested in another Moroccan international, Hakim Ziyech.
Ziyech, who is currently a free agent after his departure from Galatasaray, has been a high-profile target for several clubs.
His potential move is complicated by significant interest from Saudi Arabian clubs and a possible return to Ajax, where he enjoyed considerable success between 2016 and 2020.
Should both transfers go through, Ounahi and Ziyech would be making moves to new environments—Ounahi transitioning from France to Greece, and Ziyech possibly relocating to either the Netherlands, England, or Turkey.
Their potential moves highlight the dynamic nature of the football transfer market and the ongoing interest in Moroccan talent across Europe and beyond.
