Yacine Abed could play six matches for Algeria in just 17 days after being selected for both the UNAF U17 tournament in Tunisia and the U17 World Cup in Qatar.
The 17-year-old Paradou AC forward has been included in the 25-man squad named by Karim Ziani for the UNAF competition, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Under-17.
Abed had already been called up by Amine Ghimouz for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup, creating an unusually demanding schedule for the young international.
If he features in all of Algeria’s matches, Abed will begin with three games in Tunisia. Algeria’s U17 B side are due to face Morocco on 10 November, Tunisia on 13 November and Egypt on 16 November.
He would then have to travel to Qatar, where the U17 World Cup starts on 19 November. Algeria’s group-stage fixtures are against the United States on 21 November, Chile on 24 November and Montenegro on 27 November.
That would leave Abed with six potential appearances in a 17-day period, with the sequence involving international travel, limited recovery time and a change of squad between the two tournaments.
The schedule could place considerable physical demands on the Paradou AC attacker, and Algeria’s staff will need to monitor his condition throughout the period.
The two selections also underline the confidence placed in Abed, who attracted attention during the most recent Africa Cup of Nations Under-17.
His experience will be particularly valuable in Tunisia, where Ziani’s side must finish in the top two of their group to qualify.
The UNAF tournament will therefore provide Abed with an opportunity to help Algeria pursue qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Under-17 before he joins the squad preparing for the World Cup in Qatar.
The close proximity of the two competitions means the forward could move directly from one international assignment to the next, with only three days between Algeria’s final UNAF fixture against Egypt on 16 November and the start of the World Cup on 19 November.
Abed’s involvement in both squads makes him one of the central figures in Algeria’s plans across the two U17 events, but it also presents a significant test of his ability to manage the demands of a congested international programme.
