Olise’s turbulent journey from Chelsea to France’s World Cup star
L’Equipe’s documentary “Michael Olise, meneur tout-puissant” explores France’s key playmaker’s unconventional path, expelled from Chelsea’s academy at age 15 after six seasons, and the mentality forged from that rejection.
Former Crystal Palace assistant coach Said Aigoun recalls Olise’s legendary training dedication during Patrick Vieira’s era (2021-2023): “The hardest part with Michael Olise was making him stop training. Patrick Vieira sometimes had to tell him to go back to the locker room”.
Olise would grab equipment saying: “Today, I want to work this finishing zone, come here, fix, score by shooting at the first, second post, having this striking gesture”.
Bayern teammate Jamal Musiala confirms: “He’s one of the most hardworking players I know. He takes his profession very seriously. I love his mentality”.
Aigoun emphasizes Olise’s character strength: “This is the most difficult catastrophe for a young player. When everything collapses and you can rebuild, not even starting from the beginning but from one step back, you’re a great talent. And with that attitude, you reach the highest”.
The documentary reveals Olise’s spectacular playing style, making him the cornerstone of France’s World Cup attack with his unique footballing approach.
