Olisa Ndah in advanced talks over Libya move after South Africa exit

Former Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC defender Olisa Ndah is in talks with clubs in Libya over a move to North Africa, with negotiations with one side understood to be at “an advanced stage”.

The Nigeria international’s potential transfer would bring an end to his five-year spell in South Africa, where he established himself as one of the country’s leading defenders.

Ndah, 28, moved to South Africa in 2021 after joining Orlando Pirates from Akwa United. He quickly became an important part of the Pirates defence and built a strong reputation during his time at the club.

The defender arrived in South Africa as a Nigerian Professional Football League title winner with Akwa United. During his spell with Orlando Pirates, he went on to win four MTN8 trophies and three Nedbank Cups.

He left the club to join Stellenbosch FC last season but departed after the end of his short-term contract. Since becoming a free agent, Ndah has attracted interest from several clubs across the continent, including Mamelodi Sundowns in recent weeks.

However, interest from Libya now appears to have developed further. iDiski Times has been informed that Ndah is negotiating with a number of potential suitors in the country, with one unnamed club having taken talks to an advanced stage.

The 28-year-old was reportedly close to joining Al Shomooa before opting to move to Stellenbosch FC last season. A transfer to the Libyan Premier League would now offer him the opportunity to pursue a new challenge after a successful period in South African football.

Ndah’s possible move comes amid a recent influx of highly rated African players into Libya’s top flight. South Africa international forward Fagrie Lakay was the latest notable arrival, joining Al Ittihad Tripoli last week.

The Libya move would also give Ndah the chance to continue his career outside Nigeria after establishing himself in South Africa following his switch from Akwa United. He has remained a sought-after defender since leaving Orlando Pirates, with his performances and experience making him an attractive option to clubs looking to strengthen their squads.

No agreement has yet been confirmed, but negotiations with one Libyan club are believed to be progressing. If completed, the transfer would see Ndah leave South Africa after winning major domestic honours with Orlando Pirates and spending a season with Stellenbosch FC.
