Victor Osimhen has voiced his deep frustration over Nigeria’s struggles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, admitting that the Super Eagles are desperate to avoid missing out on a second consecutive tournament.
After four matches, Nigeria remains winless under head coach Eric Chelle, having registered three draws and one defeat.
The team now faces a critical double-header this month against Rwanda and Zimbabwe—fixtures that could determine their fate in the competition.
“Every footballer dreams of playing in the World Cup,” Osimhen said. “Given our current situation, I am desperate, as are my teammates, to participate in the 2026 tournament.
After our disappointment in 2022, it is unthinkable to go through that again, for us and for our country.”
Osimhen, who missed Nigeria’s failed attempt to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, emphasized the need for the current squad to cement its place in history by securing a ticket to the tournament.
“I don’t want to end my career regretting not having played in the World Cup,” he added. “It’s time to correct our past mistakes, give everything for our country and our new coach, and show that we deserve our place.”
With time running out in the qualifiers, Nigeria must find a way to turn their campaign around and keep their World Cup hopes alive.
