Morocco’s Amir Richardson returns to Le Havre after Fiorentina struggles

Le Havre have secured the return of Morocco international midfielder Amir Richardson on a season-long loan deal from Fiorentina, with an option worth €8 million to make the transfer permanent.

The move marks a homecoming for the 24-year-old, who came through Le Havre’s renowned academy before establishing himself in French football. Richardson becomes the club’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Sota Nakamura, Vincent Sasso, Kaito Mizuta and Timothee Pembele.

The French-born midfielder returns to familiar surroundings in a bid to reignite his career after a challenging 2025/26 season that saw him struggle for regular playing time.

Richardson featured just nine times across two clubs during the campaign, splitting his time between Fiorentina and Danish side FC Copenhagen, where he spent the second half of the season on loan.

The lack of consistent minutes affected his momentum, with the Morocco international now hoping a return to the club where he developed can provide the platform needed to rediscover his best form.

From Reims breakthrough to Fiorentina challenge

Richardson earned a move to Serie A side Fiorentina in 2024 after impressing at Stade de Reims. The Italian club paid €9 million to secure his services, handing him a long-term contract that runs until 2029.

Since arriving in Florence, the midfielder has made 43 appearances for La Viola, contributing two goals and one assist.

However, competition for places and limited opportunities prevented him from becoming a regular figure in Fiorentina’s plans, leading to his temporary switch to Copenhagen last season.

Now back in Ligue 1, Richardson will look to rebuild his confidence and form at Le Havre, where he is expected to take on a key role in midfield.

The club’s decision to include an €8 million purchase option highlights their belief that the Morocco international can still deliver at the highest level and potentially become a permanent part of their squad.

Richardson, who was born in Nice, has also gained international recognition with Morocco and was part of the squad that won a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
