Morocco strengthen dominance in CAF Confederation Cup rankings
Morocco remains the most successful nation in the history of the CAF Confederation Cup, with clubs from the country collecting a total of eight titles in the competition.
The latest success has further reinforced Morocco’s position at the top of the continental rankings, with RS Berkane emerging as the leading club in the tournament’s modern era.
RS Berkane have now won the competition three times, lifting the trophy in the 2019-2020, 2021-2022 and 2024-2025 editions.
Their recent achievements have helped establish the club as one of the dominant forces in African club football and strengthened Morocco’s growing influence in continental competitions.
The Moroccan tally has also been supported by Raja Club Athletic, who secured titles in the 2017-2018 and 2020-2021 campaigns.
Other Moroccan clubs to have lifted the Confederation Cup include AS FAR, Maghreb de Fès and Fath Union Sport, each of whom has won the competition once.
The consistent performances of Moroccan clubs over several years have turned the country into the competition’s most successful football nation.
The Confederation Cup has increasingly become an area where Moroccan teams have demonstrated tactical consistency, squad depth and continental experience.
Behind Morocco in the all-time rankings is Tunisia with five titles.
Tunisian success has largely been driven by CS Sfaxien, who won the competition three times.
Étoile du Sahel also contributed two titles to Tunisia’s overall total, helping the country maintain its place among the leading nations in African club football.
Egypt occupies third place in the rankings with three Confederation Cup titles.
Zamalek SC won the tournament twice, while Al Ahly SC claimed one title.
Although Egyptian clubs have historically dominated other CAF competitions, particularly the Champions League, Morocco has established a stronger record in the Confederation Cup.
Democratic Republic of the Congo follows with two titles, both won by TP Mazembe.
The Lubumbashi-based club remains one of the most recognised names in African football and has consistently represented Congolese football at continental level.
Several other countries have each celebrated a single Confederation Cup triumph.
Algeria earned its title through USM Alger, while Ghana secured success through Hearts of Oak.
Mali also appears on the list thanks to Stade Malien, while Republic of the Congo was represented by AC Leopards.
The rankings illustrate the growing competitiveness of African club football and the ability of clubs from different regions to challenge for continental honours.
However, Morocco’s advantage at the top underlines the consistency achieved by its clubs in recent years.
The rise of RS Berkane has been particularly notable.
Their three titles have made them the most successful club currently active in the competition’s recent history, while also contributing significantly to Morocco’s overall dominance.
Raja Club Athletic’s continued presence among the winners has further strengthened that reputation.
The Confederation Cup remains one of CAF’s most important club competitions and continues to provide a platform for African clubs to establish continental recognition.
As new editions of the tournament continue, Morocco’s clubs will likely remain among the strongest contenders based on their recent performances and growing experience on the continental stage.
