Mohamed Salah remains calm amid ongoing speculation about his future at Liverpool, with the Egyptian winger unfazed by his current contract situation, which is set to expire next summer. Despite being able to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards, Salah is taking a laid-back approach as he enters what could be his final year at Anfield.
In 2022, Salah signed a lucrative three-year contract that made him Liverpool’s highest-paid player, earning £350,000 per week.
However, with that deal coming to an end at the conclusion of the 2024 season, there has been no progress toward an extension.
The 32-year-old star could soon be courted by clubs eager to secure his signature, including increasing interest from Saudi Arabia, where football clubs have been aggressively targeting top talent.
Salah isn’t alone in this contract uncertainty at Liverpool.
Fellow senior players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold find themselves in a similar situation.
Both are entering the final year of their deals, raising questions about their long-term future at the club.
Nevertheless, Salah’s calm demeanor suggests he is in no rush to make decisions about what comes next.
According to The Athletic, Salah is intrigued by how Liverpool will fare in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.
The Egyptian winger hinted at this himself, acknowledging that he’s more focused on the present than worrying about what lies ahead.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Salah revealed his mindset: “I don’t think much about it, to be fair,” he said when asked about his contract situation.
“With time, you get a bit more wisdom. I came before the season and I was like, ‘Okay, I have one year left, so let’s enjoy it.
Don’t think about the contract now, don’t think about anything.'”
“I don’t want to think about next year or the future.
Let’s enjoy the last year and see what happens.
Just take one day at a time and be grateful that you’re here.”
Salah also discussed the tactical adjustments under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who took the reins from Klopp earlier this summer.
Reflecting on the team’s change in style, Salah noted, “We play kind of different football now.
The manager wants to control the ball all the time.
With Jurgen, sometimes it was go counter-press and try to attack all the time in their half.
Now, sometimes we slow the game down.
It’s part of the plan, and that’s the biggest difference.”
Despite these changes on the pitch, Salah has continued to thrive this season.
His performances have been instrumental in Liverpool’s strong start to the 2024 campaign, with the forward scoring in convincing victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford.
Next on the agenda for Salah and his Liverpool teammates is the highly anticipated English Classico against arch-rivals Manchester United, scheduled for Sunday, 1 September 2024.
The match is set to kick off at 6 PM CET, and Salah will be aiming to extend his impressive goal-scoring record against the Red Devils.
The Egyptian forward currently holds the record for the most goals scored in this fierce derby, with 14 goals in 15 appearances.
With his sights set firmly on delivering success for Liverpool this season, Salah’s relaxed approach to his contract talks reflects a player who is more focused on the present than the uncertainties of the future.
Whether he stays at Anfield beyond the summer remains to be seen, but for now, Mohamed Salah is simply enjoying the moment.
