Mohamed El Ghazy to referee National Bank of Egypt v Zamalek in Egyptian Premier League

Mohamed El Ghazy has been appointed referee for Zamalek’s Egyptian Premier League meeting with National Bank of Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed the officiating team for the second round fixture, with El Ghazy set to take charge as the main referee.

He will be assisted by Youssef El-Basaty and Ahmed Tawfik Talab, while Amr El-Sayed has been named as the fourth official.

Wael Farhan will oversee the match from the video assistant referee’s room, with Sherif Abdullah serving as his assistant.

The appointment comes only days before El Ghazy and Ahmed Tawfik Talab are due to be involved in another major fixture. The pair will be part of the officiating team for Friday’s Jordanian Super Cup final.

Wednesday’s game will be El Ghazy’s second match of the current season. He previously refereed the Egyptian Premier League opening-round match between Al Masry and Smouha.

El Ghazy officiated five Zamalek matches during last season, with the Cairo club winning each of those games.

He has also taken charge of two National Bank of Egypt fixtures. The team won one of those matches and drew the other.

Zamalek go into the meeting after drawing 0-0 with Al Ittihad Alexandria in the opening round of the league. National Bank of Egypt, meanwhile, began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat by Abu Qir Fertilizers.

The fixture will provide Zamalek with an opportunity to claim their first victory of the new league season after they were held without a goal by Al Ittihad Alexandria.

National Bank of Egypt will be seeking a response after losing their opening match to Abu Qir Fertilizers by a single goal.

Zamalek were crowned Egyptian Premier League champions last season, securing the title for the 15th time in the club’s history.

The latest referee appointments place El Ghazy at the centre of a match involving two teams looking for a first win of the campaign, while also giving him a final test before his involvement in the Jordanian Super Cup final later in the week.
