Hull City winger and Algerian international Mohamed Bachir Belloumi has successfully undergone surgery at Doha’s renowned Aspetar hospital after suffering a devastating cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee.
The injury, sustained on November 5 during a Championship clash against Oxford United, has sidelined the promising 22-year-old for the rest of the season.
Belloumi’s injury struck just as he was hitting his stride, with two goals and two assists in 10 league matches. His impressive form since joining Hull City from Portuguese side Farense for €5.5 million last summer had generated excitement among fans and marked him as a pivotal player for the Tigers.
The setback also dashed Belloumi’s debut call-up to Algeria’s national team under coach Vladimir Petković, a significant milestone for the young talent. However, he has the unwavering support of his father, Lakhdar Belloumi, a legend in Algerian football.
While this forced hiatus is a blow, Belloumi is receiving world-class care and rehabilitation in Qatar. Fans and analysts alike are optimistic about his return, with hopes that he will emerge stronger next season.
