South Africa international Relebohile Mofokeng scored his first goal for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, while Olwethu Makhanya made his Rangers FC debut in a busy round of fixtures for South African players abroad.

Mofokeng came on as a substitute and played the final 30 minutes of Union Saint-Gilloise’s 5-1 win over Westerlo. The forward marked his league debut for the Belgian club by finding the net during an emphatic victory.

The result provided a strong start for Union Saint-Gilloise, with Mofokeng’s goal adding to an impressive team performance. His appearance was his first in a league match for the side.

Elsewhere in Belgium, Shandre Campbell started for Kortrijk and remained on the pitch for 83 minutes. His side were beaten 3-0 by defending league champions Club Brugge.

Makhanya completed his first full appearance for Rangers FC in Scotland, playing all 90 minutes of their match against Hibernian. Rangers FC were defeated 2-1.

In Germany, Ime Okon featured for 11 minutes as Hannover 96 began their Bundesliga 2 campaign with a 3-1 loss to Cottbus.

There was also disappointment for South Africans playing in Austria. Yusuf Maart completed the entire match for Ried, who lost 2-1 to SK Rapid. Jaedin Rhodes, also representing Ried, played for 83 minutes.

In the United States, Puso Dithejane was involved for 21 minutes as Chicago Fire beat Santos Laguna 3-1 in the Leagues Cup.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane played the full match for Minnesota United, but his team were beaten 1-0 by Tigres UANL.

Luther Singh also completed 90 minutes for Cypriot club AEL Limassol in a 1-1 friendly draw with Polish side Radomiak.

Luke Le Roux played 60 minutes for Portsmouth in their 3-1 friendly defeat by West Ham.

The latest fixtures provided a mixture of milestones and difficult results for South Africa’s players overseas, with Mofokeng’s first Union Saint-Gilloise goal and Makhanya’s Rangers FC debut the standout moments.
