Meddie Kagere, the 37-year-old Rwandan striker, has firmly dismissed any speculation about his retirement from professional football. The veteran forward, known for his prolific career across various leagues, has signed a one-year contract with Namungo FC in the Tanzanian Premier League, reaffirming his commitment to the sport.
Kagere, who has made a significant impact in the Tanzanian league with clubs like Simba SC and Singida Black Stars, emphasized his ongoing dedication to football.
“I still have many years ahead of me in football. I have to keep working hard because only God holds our future,” he told Times Sport.

The Rwandan international also praised the competitiveness of the Tanzanian Premier League, asserting its superiority over other leagues in East Africa.
“Tanzania is more competitive than other leagues in East Africa. The country still has many clubs competing in the Champions League and the Confederation Cup, and they are doing better,” he noted.

He began his professional journey at Mbale Heroes in Uganda from 2004 to 2006 before moving to Atraco FC in Rwanda.
His career has since taken him to various clubs, including Kibuye FC, Kiyovu Sports, Mukura Victory Sports & Loisirs, Police FC, ES Zarzis, Rayon Sports, and Gor Mahia FC in Kenya.
He also had a stint in Europe with the Albanian Superliga team KF Tirana.
At his peak, Kagere was one of the most formidable strikers in East Africa. He was the top scorer in the Tanzanian Premier League for two consecutive seasons, netting 23 goals in the 2018-19 season and 22 goals in the 2019-20 season.
