Algerian outfit, MC Alger have announced the appointment of Tunisian trainer Khaled Ben Yahia as the club’s new head coach, following the departure of South African coach Rulani Mokwena.

Ben Yahia has signed a contract that will keep him at the helm until June 2027, marking his return to the Algerian giants.

“The management of Mouloudia Club of Algiers announces the appointment of Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia, at the head of the technical staff of the team until June 2027, succeeding South African coach Rulani Mokwena.” A statement from the club reads.

Ben Yahia, who brings a wealth of experience and familiarity with the team, is expected to oversee his first training session on Sunday evening as he prepares the squad for their upcoming league clash against USM Khenchela on Tuesday.

His previous stint with Mouloudia was highly successful, leading the club to Algerian League and Super Cup triumphs last season and taking them to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Mokwena’s departure was finalized after he activated the penalty clause in his contract, equivalent to two months’ salary, to end his eight-month tenure with the team. Despite guiding Mouloudia to the Algerian Super Cup, the South African coach leaves amid reports linking him to Libyan side Al-Ittihad, following the team’s elimination from the CAF Champions League group stage.

Currently, Mouloudia Club of Algiers sits atop the Algerian league standings with 43 points, holding a five-point lead over CS Constantine in second place. The return of Ben Yahia, a coach familiar with the club’s philosophy and squad, is expected to reinforce their title ambitions and steer the team toward success in both domestic and continental competitions.

With Ben Yahia back in charge, fans are hopeful that Mouloudia can maintain their domestic dominance while making a stronger push in African competitions, building on the foundation laid during his previous tenure.
