Mbabane Highlanders appoint former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Floyd Mogale
Mbabane Highlanders AM FC have appointed former Mamelodi Sundowns youth coach and scout Floyd ‘Mourinho’ Mogale as their new head coach, with the Eswatini club hoping he can revive their fortunes ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The club, owned by Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize, confirmed Mogale’s appointment on Tuesday. He replaces fellow South African coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala, who recently left Mbabane Highlanders to take charge of rivals Moneni Pirates.
Mogale’s arrival ends a period of speculation over the vacant position, with Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela also linked with the role.
He inherits a side that finished fifth in the previous campaign, while another South African coach, Mandla Qhogi, led Nsingizini Hotspurs to the league title.
The new head coach has been given the task of restoring Mbabane Highlanders to the top of Eswatini football. The club’s last league title came in 2001.
Mogale will work alongside physical trainer Percy Shongwe as the Black Bull begin preparations for the new campaign. The former Mamelodi Sundowns scout has also held positions at Black Leopards, the now-defunct Free State Stars and Chippa United.
In a statement confirming the appointment, Mbabane Highlanders said: “Mbabane Highlanders AM FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Floyd Mogale as the club’s new Head Coach.”
The club added: “Coach Mogale joins the Black Bull with a distinguished coaching resume. He has a proven commitment to player development, tactical excellence, and building competitive teams. His appointment marks an important milestone as the club embarks on a new chapter. Preparations for the upcoming season are already underway.”
Shongwe’s appointment to the technical team was also confirmed by the club.
“Working alongside Coach Mogale will be Percy Shongwe, who joins the technical team as the club’s Physical Trainer,” Mbabane Highlanders said.
The club described Shongwe as an experienced coach with a strong understanding of the local game and an approach influenced by modern training methods and international football.
“Coach Shongwe brings a wealth of coaching experience, an excellent understanding of the local football landscape, and a progressive approach shaped by modern training methodologies and a global football perspective,” the statement said.
“His expertise will play a vital role in ensuring the squad is physically prepared to meet the demands of the new campaign.”
Mbabane Highlanders said the appointments represented the beginning of a new phase for the club and expressed confidence that the pair could help strengthen its football operations.
“The club extends a warm welcome to both Coach Mogale and Coach Shongwe. We are confident that their combined leadership, experience, and shared commitment to excellence will strengthen our football project and inspire continued growth on and off the pitch,” the statement concluded.
Mogale has previously revealed details of the day Mamelodi Sundowns rejected a 12-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng.
