Algeria coach Brahim Hemdani reportedly plans first senior call-up for Kouhili

Brahim Hemdani is reportedly considering a first senior Algeria call-up for Ben Ahmed Kouhili after being impressed by the striker during the Mediterranean Games.

The new Algeria coach already knows the forward well, having worked with him during the tournament in Italy this summer. Kouhili played a key role in Hemdani’s side, scoring five goals and providing one assist.

His performances have now reportedly put him in contention for a place in Algeria’s next squad.

According to Khaled Mazouzi, speaking on AL24 News, Kouhili is among the players being considered by Hemdani for the upcoming international matches.

The coach’s previous experience with the striker gives the young forward an advantage, as Hemdani was able to assess his qualities directly during an international competition.

Kouhili was one of the standout attacking players under Hemdani’s management at the Mediterranean Games. His five goals made him an important figure in the team’s campaign and provided a clear indication of his ability in front of goal.

In Algeria, the striker has been nicknamed the “new Belaïli”, adding to the attention surrounding his rapid progress.

A senior call-up would represent another important stage in Kouhili’s development. The striker began his career at Paradou AC before making a move to MC Alger this summer.

His switch to Mouloudia has come at a significant moment in his career, with his performances for the national team at the Mediterranean Games now potentially opening the door to senior international football.

Kouhili’s possible inclusion would also give Hemdani another attacking option as the new coach begins to shape his Algeria squad.

However, his potential arrival would not necessarily signal a complete change from the experienced players who have featured prominently for the Greens.

Reports from Algeria indicate that Youcef Belaïli, Yacine Brahimi and Baghdad Bounedjah are also among the players who have been pre-selected for the upcoming squad.

Those names, like Kouhili’s, have yet to be officially confirmed.

Hemdani’s squad is expected to be announced around 20 September, when it will become clear whether his reported interest in Kouhili results in the striker receiving his first senior Algeria call-up.

For Kouhili, his performances in Italy have already provided a strong case. He does not have to rely solely on his reputation to convince the new coach, having already shown Hemdani what he can offer while working directly under his management.
