Fabregas celebrates Como’s Champions League statement with win over RB Leipzig

Cesc Fabregas described Como’s 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig as a historic moment after the Italian side made an emphatic debut in the Champions League.

Como delivered an outstanding performance on Thursday to mark their first appearance in Europe’s elite club competition, with Fabregas pleased that his players rose to the occasion.

“It was a historic evening for the club and the fans, who will still be talking about it in 10 years’ time,” Fabregas said.

“That’s the beauty of football. I hope the fans enjoyed it as much as we did.”

The result marked another significant step in the rapid progress made by both Fabregas and Como.

The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder ended his playing career with Como in 2023 before beginning his coaching career and eventually taking charge of the team.

Como have also started their Serie A campaign positively, taking seven points from their first three matches.

Fabregas must now switch his focus back to domestic competition, with Como due to host Parma on Monday as they attempt to continue their strong start to the season.
