Al Ahly beaten by Al Ahly Benghazi in pre-league friendly

Al Ahly suffered a 1-0 defeat by Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi in a friendly match at the Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium on Thursday.

The game was Al Ahly’s third friendly since the start of the new season, with manager Hussein Ammouta using the match to give playing time to several players who have had limited involvement in recent competitive fixtures.

Libyan defender Osama Al-Srait scored the only goal of the game to give Al Ahly Benghazi victory as they completed their training camp in Cairo.

Al Ahly’s starting line-up included goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, with Karim Fouad, Yassin Marei, Ashraf Dari and Akram Tawfik forming the defence.

Ahmed Reda, Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Emam Ashour started in midfield, while Taher Mohamed Taher, Abdullah Aktai and Hussein El Shahat featured in attack.

Several players who had not featured in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Al Mokawloon Al Arab were given an opportunity, including Dari, Tawfik, Marei, Omar Sayed Moawad, Ahmed Eid and Ahmed Khaled Kabaka.

Ammouta made six changes during the second half, bringing on Eid, Karim Al-Dabiss, Kabaka, Omar Al-Saai, Moawad and Tawfiq Mohamed.

Al Ahly were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Mokawloon Al Arab at the Green Mountain Stadium on Wednesday in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

They will return to competitive action on Tuesday when they face Abu Qir Fertilizers at Cairo Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 local time, in the fifth round of the league.
