Mazraoui and Rahimi score as Morocco beat Gabon in CAN 2027 opener

Morocco began their CAN 2027 qualifying campaign with a controlled 2-0 victory over Gabon in their opening Group A match.

The Lions of the Atlas set the tempo from the start and created the stronger presence in possession. Their pressure was rewarded in the 36th minute when Noussair Mazraoui found the net to put Morocco ahead before half-time.

Gabon attempted to respond after the break and searched for an equaliser, but Morocco’s defence remained firm. The hosts then secured the result late on when Soufiane Rahimi doubled their advantage in the 84th minute.

The 2-0 win gives Morocco three points and a positive start to their CAN 2027 qualifying campaign.
