Marseille weighing move for Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes amid Geronimo Rulli doubts

Olympique de Marseille are closely monitoring Toulouse FC goalkeeper Guillaume Restes as they prepare for the possibility of reshaping their options in goal, with the future of Geronimo Rulli still uncertain.

Recruitment staff at the Ligue 1 club have identified the 21-year-old as one of their preferred targets should they decide to bring in a new first-choice goalkeeper in the current transfer window, according to Foot Mercato.

Restes, a Toulouse academy product, has impressed Marseille’s hierarchy with his performances in Ligue 1 and is viewed internally as a leading candidate if a change of number one is required. His age, potential and top-flight experience have combined to make him a priority profile under consideration.

Aston Villa also tracking Restes

Any move for Restes is expected to be complicated by interest from the Premier League. Aston Villa are also following the Frenchman’s situation and could step up their pursuit if Emiliano Martinez were to leave the club for Juventus.

For now, Marseille are understood to be in an information-gathering phase rather than making a formal approach, but that stance could change quickly if there is movement within their goalkeeping department.

Rulli’s position at the club remains unclear, prompting Marseille to plan for several scenarios as the transfer window progresses. The level of competition for Restes, particularly from England, means OM may have to act decisively if they choose to move forward.

Long-term contract at Toulouse

Restes is under contract at Toulouse until June 2028, putting his current club in a strong position in any negotiations. Of Ivorian origin, the goalkeeper is currently valued at €18m by Transfermarkt.

That figure, combined with his lengthy deal, suggests Toulouse would demand a significant fee to sanction his departure, especially with multiple clubs showing an interest.

With the market still active and several major European clubs potentially reshuffling their goalkeeping options, Restes’ situation is expected to be one to watch in the coming weeks as Marseille and Aston Villa assess their next steps.
