Spalletti admits Juventus’ 3-0 defeat by Lazio is difficult to explain

Luciano Spalletti says he is struggling to understand Juventus’ performance after they were beaten 3-0 by Lazio in the seventh round of the league season.

Juventus produced what their manager described as their lowest-level display as Lazio secured a convincing victory. The result leaves Juventus eighth in the table on 11 points.

“We were at our lowest level, did not control the match and had no clear ideas,” Spalletti told DAZN. “It is difficult to explain, even to ourselves.”

The Juventus manager said his side lacked intensity and commitment throughout the game, while also struggling in individual battles.

“We did not have the rhythm or the ideas, we did not run and we did not show the desire to do the hard work,” he added. “We were weak in the duels.”

Spalletti said the performance would require detailed examination and suggested changes were necessary.

“We need to analyse the performance. Something has to be adjusted,” he said. “I was surprised by this display, so I need to think deeply.”

The victory continued Lazio’s unbeaten start to the campaign and gave them 19 points from their opening seven Serie A matches for the first time in the club’s history. They have won six games and drawn one.

Lazio sit second in the table on 19 points, with leaders Inter ahead only on goal difference.

The result also extended Juventus’ winless run against Lazio to four consecutive matches. Juventus’ most recent victory over them came in 2024, when they won 1-0 in the eighth round of the league.

Juventus remain on 11 points and occupy eighth place.
