Heartbreak after memorable World Cup run

Egypt’s World Cup journey ended in heartbreaking fashion after surrendering a two-goal lead against reigning champions Argentina before eventually losing 3-2 in the knockout stage.

Despite the disappointment, the Pharaohs earned widespread praise for their performances during the tournament, with their campaign marking one of the country’s most encouraging appearances on football’s biggest stage.

The squad returned home on Friday to a warm reception from supporters, who celebrated the team’s achievements despite their elimination.

Marmoush delivers message to supporters

Writing on his Instagram account, Marmoush thanked Egyptian fans and reflected on the pride of representing his country.

“No one represents their country without leaving a part of their heart on the field, and there is no greater honour than representing Egypt.”

The 26-year-old believes the current squad has the potential to achieve even greater success in the years ahead.

“We are a generation that still has a lot to offer, and we will continue to work to raise the name of Egypt and bring it to the position it deserves.”

He also expressed his appreciation to everyone who supported the team throughout the tournament.

“Thank you to everyone who supported, criticised, and believed. We will come back stronger, O Mother of the World.”

Historic achievement for the Pharaohs

Although their World Cup adventure ended in the Round of 16, Egypt left the tournament with a landmark achievement after recording the nation’s first-ever World Cup victory by defeating New Zealand 3-1 during the group stage.

That milestone, combined with a spirited run into the knockout rounds, has fuelled optimism that the Pharaohs can continue building towards future international success.
