Marmoush leaves Manchester City for Tottenham loan with permanent move planned

Omar Marmoush has officially joined Tottenham from Manchester City on loan, with an obligation to buy understood to be worth about €58m. The Egyptian international’s arrival was confirmed by Tottenham on the club’s official website.

At 27, Marmoush will be hoping the move gives his career fresh momentum after struggling to secure regular playing time at Manchester City. He is expected to take on a more prominent role in an attacking Tottenham side that has been looking for greater consistency in front of goal.

However, competition with Erling Haaland meant Marmoush quickly found himself behind the Norway international in the pecking order. He was often required to operate as a second-choice option despite showing signs of his quality during his first months at the club.

Marmoush scored eight goals and supplied one assist in 22 appearances during his first six months at Manchester City, playing a total of 1,698 minutes. Those figures suggested he could become an influential player, although his opportunities were limited by the strength of the competition for places.

His 2025/26 campaign was less consistent. Although he made 36 appearances, the former Wolfsburg player scored only eight goals and provided three assists. His playing time also fell further, to 1,393 minutes.

That record underlined the difficulty Marmoush faced in establishing himself as a regular part of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City rotation. The move to Tottenham now offers him the prospect of greater responsibility and the regular football needed to fulfil his potential.
