Chelsea linked with Benfica right-back Daniel Banjaqui
Daniel Banjaqui, the Portugal and Guinea-Bissau defender who plays for Benfica, has been linked with a move to Chelsea in the Premier League.
The 18-year-old right-back has made six senior appearances for Benfica this season, including three starts in Liga Portugal 2, two league appearances and one Europa League appearance. He has played 250 minutes in total and has yet to score or assist.
Banjaqui moved from Benfica B into the club’s senior squad on 1 July 2026, having progressed through Benfica’s academy since joining from Real Formacao in 2018. His current contract runs until 30 June 2031.
The defender’s market value is listed at €10m, while the rumour does not include a reported transfer fee or probability of completion.
Banjaqui was part of Portugal’s Under-17 side that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2025. He also won the European Under-17 Championship and the Torneio Internacional Algarve U17 with the same team that year.
He has been used regularly for Benfica B in the early part of the campaign, starting all three of the side’s Liga Portugal 2 matches and playing 93% of the available minutes. His senior involvement also includes appearances in Benfica’s domestic top flight and Europa League campaign.
Banjaqui remains a Benfica player under a long-term contract while the reported Chelsea interest develops.
