Former Bafana Bafana international Bernard Parker has asked the public and media to respect his privacy after confirming the end of his three-year relationship with businesswoman Kacha Stepanovic.
Parker announced the separation in a lengthy statement shared on his Instagram story. He apologised for the hurt he had caused, accepted responsibility for his actions and thanked Stepanovic for the support she had given him.
“Kacha, I’m truly sorry for the times I hurt you, let you down, and caused you pain,” Parker wrote. “You gave me love, support, patience, and kindness that I’ve never received before. I take responsibility for my mistakes, knowing some things cannot simply be undone with an apology.”
He said the circumstances surrounding the break-up would not diminish the positive experiences they had shared.
“Despite everything, I will never allow the way things ended to erase the good we shared. Together, we have been blessed with beautiful children, and that will forever connect us.”
The announcement prompted confusion among some fans, who had believed Parker remained married to Wendy Parker. The pair married in 2012.
Parker subsequently issued a second statement on Instagram, cautioning against speculation and misinformation about his relationships and personal circumstances.
“I am aware of statements circulating publicly concerning my personal circumstances and relationships,” he said. “For clarity, any communication attributed to me should be treated as official only if it has been confirmed by me or issued through my authorised representative.”
The former Bafana Bafana player also appealed to journalists and members of the public not to circulate information that had not been verified.
“I am attending to the matter privately and responsibly, with due consideration for the well-being and dignity of everyone concerned, particularly the children,” Parker said.
He added that he did not plan to discuss the details of the matter publicly for now.
“I do not intend to engage in public exchanges or comment on the details of this private matter at this stage. I reserve my position regarding any statements or allegations circulating publicly and will communicate through the appropriate channels should this become necessary.”
Parker concluded by thanking those who had supported him, as well as his colleagues and people across football, for their understanding during the period.
“I appreciate the understanding and respect of my supporters, colleagues, and the football fraternity during this time.”
