Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant takes major step towards Paderborn return

SC Paderborn defender Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant has taken an important step towards returning to action after spending more than three months recovering from a knee injury.

The 26-year-old centre-back participated in part of Thursday’s team training for the first time since suffering a lateral ligament injury in July. His return to group work represents encouraging progress after an extended period on the sidelines.

Paderborn head coach Ralf Kettemann confirmed the development ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga away fixture against Werder Bremen, expressing his delight at seeing the defender back on the training pitch.

“After a long and difficult period, Awortwie-Grant took part in part of training today for the first time. It was a really good moment,” Kettemann said.

Despite the positive news, Awortwie-Grant will not be available for the match in Bremen. Having been out for several months, he must gradually rebuild his fitness and return to full training before being considered for competitive action.

The defender joined Paderborn during the summer but has yet to make his competitive debut for the club. His injury delayed the start of his campaign, making Thursday’s partial return an important milestone.

Paderborn have not provided a definitive date for his comeback, and the coaching staff will continue to monitor his progress in the coming weeks.

For now, the focus is on completing the next stage of his rehabilitation without further setbacks as Awortwie-Grant works towards making his first appearance for the club.
