Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Jody February has completed a season-long loan move to Siwelele FC, with his agent Mike Makaab confirming the deal to Soccer Laduma.

The 30-year-old’s transfer follows the return of Ricardo Goss to Sundowns from Siwelele FC, a development that further reduced February’s prospects of securing regular first-team football at the club.

February could be available for Siwelele FC when they face Kaizer Chiefs in their next Betway Premiership fixture on 5 September. The move gives him an opportunity to rebuild his match sharpness after a campaign in which he failed to make a single appearance for Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper will now be hoping to establish himself as a regular starter and regain the playing time he has been lacking.

Makaab acknowledged that February may need time to reach his best level, but said the goalkeeper’s character and previous performances gave him confidence that he could succeed at Siwelele FC.

“The deal is done, the loan agreement has been finalised. It’s a good move for him. He needs to play. Again, it’s not going to be easy for him because he’s not had a lot of game time, but he’s got a very good temperament. I don’t know if you remember when Manqoba (Mngqithi) gave him a couple of games he did well. For a goalkeeper who had not played, he did very well,” Makaab said to Soccer Laduma.

February’s lack of appearances last season means he faces competition to claim the starting position, but Makaab believes his maturity will help him manage the challenge.

“We’ve just got to hope that he puts his best foot forward. It may take a little bit of time for him to get to his peak, but he’s mature.”

The loan move is the latest change involving a Mamelodi Sundowns player as the club continues to assess its squad options.

Kodisang also expected to leave

Winger Kobamelo Kodisang is another player who could depart Mamelodi Sundowns in the coming weeks. The former Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits player is currently not training with the first team.

Soccer Laduma has reported that options outside South Africa could be explored for Kodisang, with limited interest believed to have been shown by clubs in the Betway Premiership.

Unlike February’s confirmed move, Kodisang’s next destination has not yet been finalised. However, his absence from first-team training suggests his future at Mamelodi Sundowns remains uncertain as overseas opportunities are considered.
