Luis Enrique explains Ibrahim Mbaye snub

Luis Enrique has shed light on why Ibrahim Mbaye has barely featured for Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks and was even left out of the squad for the recent clash with Lyon.

The PSG boss stressed that the winger’s situation is not about punishment, but about the fierce level of internal competition at the club.

“That’s simply what I’m saying. Every minute you can play at PSG has to be special. I have no regrets about Mbaye, but you have to be ready. He was ready, but I expect much more from all the players. It’s simply competition; a player has to stay out of the team. You have to enjoy every minute,” explained the Spanish coach when asked about Mbaye’s absence.

Since returning from AFCON 2025 with Senegal, Mbaye has been limited to just six appearances this year, a modest tally for a player hoping to establish himself in a star-studded squad.

Enrique’s comments underline that breaking into PSG’s lineup remains a demanding challenge, with every training session and match opportunity scrutinised closely as players fight for their place.
