Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta linked with Libya coaching job
Former Libya national football team star Nader Al-Tarhouni has put forward a shortlist of candidates to take charge of the national team following the resignation of Aliou Cisse.
Speaking about the team’s future direction, Al-Tarhouni stressed the need for a long-term vision built around a strong technical leader.
“The Libyan national team currently needs a real project from the local football federation led by a distinguished coach with a great track record and clear experience in building teams and creating a tactical identity,” he said.
In his recommendations, he highlighted three prominent names with proven international experience. At the top of the list is Herve Renard, who recently parted ways with the Saudi Arabia national football team and is widely respected for his success with national sides.
Al-Tarhouni also pointed to Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta as a strong candidate, noting his availability following his departure from Al-Jazira Club in 2025. He praised Ammouta’s achievements on the international stage, particularly his run to the final of the Asian Cup with the Jordan national football team.
Completing the shortlist is fellow Moroccan tactician Jamal Sellami, who currently serves as technical director of the Jordanian national team and is also viewed as a capable option for the role.
With the Libyan Football Federation expected to make a decision in the coming period, Al-Tarhouni’s suggestions reflect a desire to appoint an experienced coach capable of rebuilding the team and establishing a clear footballing identity.
