Ludogorets complete signing of Egypt defender Hossam Abdelmaguid from Zamalek
Bulgarian champions Ludogorets have confirmed the signing of Egypt international Hossam Abdelmaguid from Zamalek after the 25-year-old successfully completed his medical examination.
The centre-back joins the 14-time Bulgarian champions following an impressive campaign for both club and country, having played a key role in Egypt’s run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Abdelmaguid featured in the Pharaohs’ victories over New Zealand in the group stage and Australia in the Round of 32. Renowned for his composure under pressure, the defender converted the decisive penalty in the shootout against the Socceroos to help Egypt secure progression to the knockout stage.
A graduate of Zamalek’s youth academy, Abdelmaguid leaves the Egyptian giants after making 171 appearances in all competitions. During his time with the Cairo-based club, he scored 15 goals and registered one assist while establishing himself as one of the league’s most reliable defenders.
He was instrumental in Zamalek’s Egyptian Premier League title-winning campaign last season, making 25 league appearances and contributing four goals from defence.
On the international stage, Abdelmaguid has collected 15 caps for Egypt since making his senior debut in 2023 under former national team coach Rui Vitória.
Ludogorets confirmed that the defender will report for pre-season training after completing his post-World Cup holiday later this month.
“Due to his participation in the World Cup, Hosam Abdelmaguid is currently on a well-deserved break. He will join Ludogorets’ training at the end of the month,” the club said in a statement.
The Bulgarian side added that all remaining administrative and registration procedures will be completed before the defender officially joins the squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
