After a recent health crisis that led to his hospitalization, legendary Egyptian football coach Hassan Shehata is showing signs of recovery.

His son, Karim Hassan Shehata, shared in a radio interview that his father’s health has “improved considerably” in recent days and that “the Maestro” will be discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

However, Shehata is expected to return to the hospital soon to undergo exploratory endoscopy and a planned operation to treat pancreatic inflammation. During his recovery, he’s received visits from prominent figures, including Egypt’s Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib, and a delegation from the UAE embassy.

In addition, coaches in the PRO license course and football legends such as Alaa Nabil, Dr. Gamal Mohamed Ali, Shawky Gharib, and Mohamed Aboutrika have checked in on him, with Aboutrika calling during Wael Gomaa’s hospital visit.

Shehata remains a symbol of Egyptian football greatness. He made history as a player and coach, most notably guiding the Egyptian national team to three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations titles, cementing his place in the game’s memory.
