Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has called on the club to extend Mohamed Salah’s contract, insisting the forward is still at his peak and should not be allowed to leave.
Salah has been in exceptional form this season, scoring 32 goals and providing 22 assists in 42 matches across all competitions.
He currently leads the Premier League’s top scorer chart with 27 goals, ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who has 20 goals.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Lawrenson dismissed the possibility of Salah moving to Saudi Arabia, saying Salah remains a top performer.
“I don’t think Salah will move to the Saudi league. Salah has reached his highest level, and I think it’s difficult to take football away from him now,” Lawrenson said.
He added, “Salah has been outstanding this season. I believe Liverpool’s management should extend his contract for two more years with an option for an additional year.”
The 32-year-old has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Al Hilal, but reports suggest he is open to staying at Liverpool if the club meets his demands.
Liverpool initially offered Salah a one-year extension, but he rejected the proposal. The club later revised the offer with a reduced salary, which Salah also turned down.
The Egyptian forward is Liverpool’s highest-paid player, earning £350,000 per week.
Meanwhile, reports claim Al Hilal is willing to offer him £1.5 million per week to lure him to Saudi Arabia.
