Late commission dispute ends Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of Zion Suzuki

Paris Saint-Germain’s move for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has unexpectedly fallen through after the player’s representatives made late demands over their commission, despite negotiations having reached an advanced stage.

The French club had been working towards an agreement to sign the 23-year-old Japan international during the current transfer window. However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano and French broadcaster RMC, talks collapsed when Suzuki’s agents requested financial terms that Paris Saint-Germain considered excessive.

The breakdown came after Paris Saint-Germain had already reached an initial agreement with both Suzuki and Parma. The proposed transfer fee for the goalkeeper was understood to be about €35m, with only the final details of Suzuki’s contract and the payments due to his representatives still to be settled.

The club had gone as far as booking Suzuki a flight to the French capital last Saturday. He was expected to undergo a medical and complete the formal signing of his contract, but the move was suddenly halted before those steps could take place.

The failed transfer has disrupted Paris Saint-Germain’s plans for Suzuki’s immediate future. One possibility under consideration had been to sign the goalkeeper and then send him on loan to Juventus for a season, allowing him to continue his development while gaining experience at another major European club.

That option was abandoned two days ago, when Juventus ended its contact with Paris Saint-Germain. No further explanation was given for the Italian club’s decision to withdraw from discussions.

As a result, there will be no immediate change to Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeping department. Matvey Safonov remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, while Lucas Chevalier continues as the deputy.

Paris Saint-Germain will now have to wait for further developments in the transfer market before deciding whether to revisit its goalkeeping plans. For the moment, Suzuki’s proposed move to the French champions has ended just before its final stages, despite the clubs having agreed a fee and the player having been expected in Paris for his medical.
