Kylian Mbappe underlined his status as one of football’s most lethal forwards by scoring a brilliant hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 5-0 victory over Kairat Almaty in the Champions League.

The Frenchman’s first-half penalty set the tone before he added two more goals in the second half, while Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Diaz also struck to keep Los Blancos perfect in their European campaign.

Mbappe’s treble not only secured another commanding win for Madrid but also rewrote the record books. Beginning the night with 57 Champions League goals, he leapt from 9th to 6th on the all-time scoring chart in just ninety minutes. He now sits behind only Cristiano Ronaldo with 141, Lionel Messi with 129, Karim Benzema with 90 and Raul with 71.

At just 26 years old, Mbappe has time on his side and the chance to challenge the towering tallies of Ronaldo and Messi. Yet, as many have noted, what will truly complete his story is not only the goals but also lifting the Champions League trophy itself.
