Achraf Hakimi breaks silence on legal case ahead of Liverpool clash
Achraf Hakimi has spoken publicly about the postponement of his rape trial, maintaining his innocence while insisting he remains focused on football ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool.
The Moroccan international, 27, finds himself balancing major sporting commitments with an ongoing legal case that has recently taken another procedural turn.
When asked directly about being sent to trial on rape charges, Hakimi firmly rejected the allegations and stressed his calm approach to the situation.
“This accusation is false. I am calm and serene. I leave this matter in the hands of my lawyers and the justice system,” he assured.
The defender, who has consistently denied the allegations since the investigation began in 2023, continues to receive backing from PSG during what has been a challenging period off the pitch.
Club officials have maintained their confidence in the player, who remains an important part of the squad as they pursue success in Europe.
Despite the off-field scrutiny, Hakimi also used the occasion to shift focus to football, highlighting PSG’s growing belief as they prepare for a difficult trip to Anfield.
“We have more confidence than last season. We know what we’re capable of on this kind of pitch.”
The Paris side head into the clash with Liverpool aware of the intense atmosphere they will face, as they look to secure progress in one of the most demanding venues in European football.
Hakimi, who has been described by head coach Luis Enrique as “the best right-back in the world”, is expected to play a key role both defensively and in attack as PSG aim to deliver a strong performance.
For the player, the situation presents a dual challenge: maintaining high performance levels on the pitch while continuing to navigate legal proceedings off it.
Despite this, he has remained composed in public, insisting his focus remains firmly on helping his team in a crucial European tie.
As PSG prepare for a decisive night at Anfield, attention will be split between the footballing challenge and the personal circumstances surrounding one of their key players.
