Kruger United closing in on experienced former Chippa United utility player Ayabulela Konqobe

Kruger United are close to signing former Chippa United utility player Ayabulela Konqobe as the newly promoted side look to strengthen their squad after a difficult start to life in the Betway Premiership.

Konqobe is currently undergoing an assessment with Kruger, and the club are understood to have been encouraged by his progress so far. The 30-year-old’s potential arrival would give the league newcomers an experienced option, particularly in a defensive role.

The player has built up considerable experience during a career that has included spells with Thanda Royal Zulu, Ajax Cape Town, AmaZulu, SuperSport United and Chippa United. He spent last season at Chippa, where he made 26 appearances in all competitions.

His departure from Chippa came as a surprise, given the regular role he had taken on during the campaign. He is now close to joining Kruger, who appear keen to benefit from his versatility and knowledge of South African football.

Kruger earned promotion to the Betway Premiership but have found the top flight difficult so far. After five matches, they have collected only two points and are currently at the bottom of the league table.

Their defensive struggles have been a particular concern, making Konqobe’s ability to operate in a defensive position potentially valuable. His experience could help provide greater stability as Kruger attempt to improve their results and adapt to the demands of the division.

No final agreement has been confirmed, but the latest information indicates that Konqobe’s assessment is progressing positively and that Kruger are closing in on securing his services.

The move would see Konqobe continue his career with another South African club after previous stints at Thanda Royal Zulu, Ajax Cape Town, AmaZulu, SuperSport United and Chippa United. His most recent campaign at Chippa included 26 appearances across all competitions before the unexpected exit.
