Kodisang could leave Mamelodi Sundowns for move abroad

Kobamelo Kodisang’s future at Mamelodi Sundowns remains uncertain, with a move outside South Africa still being considered for the winger.

Kodisang is not training with the first team at Mamelodi Sundowns, and discussions are under way over a possible transfer. A season-long loan is one of the options being considered, according to Soccer Laduma.

The player’s representatives are understood to be working behind the scenes to find him a new club before the close of the transfer window next season. While a move within South Africa remains possible, an opportunity outside the country has not been ruled out.

Kodisang joined Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of the 2024/25 season but has found regular first-team football difficult to secure. His lack of opportunities has continued across the past two seasons, with the Tshwane club sending him out on loan twice last season.

The first spell took him to Portugal with AVS, before he returned to South Africa and joined Stellenbosch FC for the second half of the campaign.

The winger already has experience of playing in Portugal and is not expected to be concerned by the prospect of moving abroad again. A change of surroundings could provide him with the playing time needed to revive a career that has not developed as he would have hoped during his time at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kodisang is expected to find a new club soon, with those close to the situation hoping that a move will help restore his momentum. The priority is understood to be securing regular minutes elsewhere after a difficult period in his career.

Mamelodi Sundowns are also preparing to send goalkeeper Jody February out on loan for the season.

Siwelele FC is considered the likely destination for February, who previously played for Ajax Cape Town. His potential departure would be part of further movement involving players who are not currently expected to play a central role in Mamelodi Sundowns’ first-team plans.

For Kodisang, the immediate focus is on finding a club where he can play consistently. His previous experience in Portugal means that a return abroad remains a realistic possibility, while a domestic move could also give him the opportunity to rebuild his form and confidence.
