Kgositsile backed for bright future after impressive Orlando Pirates debut

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi says Kabelo Kgositsile has the potential to enjoy a successful career after the winger made an eye-catching first-team debut in the Buccaneers’ opening Betway Premiership match of the season.

The 21-year-old came off the bench during Pirates’ 2-0 home victory over Milford FC and produced an encouraging performance, despite not travelling with the senior squad for their pre-season tour of Spain.

Sibisi said Kgositsile’s display did not surprise him, adding that Pirates have several promising young players progressing through their ranks.

“Look, an exciting talent, but not him alone. I think we have a couple of them,” Sibisi said.

The Pirates captain was speaking to journalists at the 2026 MTN8 launch in Johannesburg this week. He believes the circumstances of Kgositsile’s debut could provide an important boost to the youngster’s confidence.

“For him, I think it was a much-needed debut, playing at home. It’s going to boost his confidence, and what a better way to make your Pirates debut than a win at home.”

Kgositsile had only recently begun making the step into Pirates’ senior set-up before being given his opportunity against Milford. His introduction was one of the main talking points from the club’s opening league win.

Sibisi also pointed to the winger’s willingness to take on defenders as one of the qualities that make him an exciting prospect.

“I think he’s an exciting winger, loves the one-versus-ones. I think he’s full of potential, and I think the fans and even the team will be mesmerised by his potential.”

Pirates will now look to build on their winning start when they face Durban City in an MTN8 quarter-final at the Orlando Amstel Arena this afternoon.

Kgositsile is among a group of younger players seeking further opportunities under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou as the Buccaneers continue their campaign.
