South Africa U23 midfielder Kgaogelo Chauke says reaching 100 appearances for Burton Albion is a “proud moment”, after becoming the latest milestone man at the League One club.
Chauke joined Burton from Southampton four years ago and has established himself as an important member of the squad. He has played every minute of the Brewers’ campaign so far this season.
The midfielder has operated both as a number six and in a more advanced role. He scored his first goal of the season in Burton’s memorable 2-1 victory away to Leicester City at King Power Stadium.
“It’s a proud moment to reach 100 appearances, it’s not something everyone can say in football, so to reach 100, especially for this club, is a proud moment,” Chauke told Burton’s official media channel.
The 100th appearance comes during what is now his fourth season with the club. Chauke said he had not expected to become Burton’s longest-serving player when he first arrived.
“I didn’t think it would be this way, I’d end up being the longest-serving player and reaching 100 appearances, I didn’t think that far forward, but to reach this stage, in which is my fourth season now, is a good place, I’m happy to be here.”
Chauke, who is a South Africa youth international, last represented his country three years ago. His consistent performances for Burton this season could put him back on the radar of the Bafana Bafana technical team.
