Keagan Dolly among five players leaving Cape Town City
Cape Town City FC have confirmed the departure of five players ahead of the 2026/27 season, with former Bafana Bafana international Keagan Dolly the most prominent name on the list.
The Motsepe Foundation Championship club announced the changes on Thursday, 2 July 2026, confirming a report published exclusively by FARPost last month.
Dolly will leave alongside defender Njabulo Ngcobo, Bosnian forward Dzenan Zajmovic, left-back Sifiso Ngobeni and midfielder Siphamandla Dondolo.
The departures form part of a squad restructure following a disappointing end to Cape Town City’s 2025/26 campaign, in which the club came close to regaining its place in South Africa’s top flight but ultimately fell short.
Cape Town City finished second in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 54 points from 30 league matches. Kruger United secured the automatic promotion place after finishing at the top of the table on 62 points, eight ahead of their Cape-based challengers.
The Mother City side were then given another opportunity to reach the Betway Premiership through the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.
However, Cape Town City were unable to take advantage of that opportunity. They ended the three-team mini-league at the bottom of the standings, collecting four points from four matches and missing out on promotion.
The club thanked all five departing players for their contribution in an official statement.
“Cape Town City FC can confirm the departure of the following players, who have worn the badge with pride and represented the club with heart,” the club announced.
“Each player leaves with our sincere thanks for the dedication, commitment and professionalism they showed during their time at the club. We wish them nothing but success as they begin the next chapter of their journey. Once a Citizen, always a Citizen.”
Dolly’s exit is the most high-profile of the five announced departures. The former Bafana Bafana international was part of a group of players released as Cape Town City begin preparing for the new season.
Ngcobo, Zajmovic, Ngobeni and Dondolo will also leave the club after Cape Town City’s unsuccessful promotion campaign.
The club’s second-place finish had initially kept their hopes of returning to the Betway Premiership alive, but their failure in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs means they will remain in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the 2026/27 season.
Cape Town City’s four points from the playoffs were not enough to lift them from the bottom of the final mini-league table. Kruger United’s regular-season success had already denied them automatic promotion, and the playoff results ended their remaining route back to the top flight.
The five departures now mark a significant change to the squad as the club looks ahead to the next campaign.
