Kaze praises hyper-competitive PSL as Kaizer Chiefs surge past 50 points
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Cedric Kaze says the Betway Premiership has never been this wide open, noting that no single team truly dominated this season.
After nearly six years of failing to reach the 50-point mark, Chiefs have amassed 54 points with one game left following a narrow 1-0 win over AmaZulu.
“I would say that the league this season was not as before. There were not like any dominating team in the league this season. Everyone was competing,” Kaze explained, adding that Chiefs weren’t close to the leaders until late January but learned how to stay in touch.
The difference from recent campaigns is stark. Chiefs finished with just 32 points in 2021/22 and 36 in 2022/23, yet now they’ve crossed 50 points for the first time since their second-place finish in 2019/20. “But if you talk about the difference between the points that we have now and the previous seasons, there is indeed a big difference, but we need to do better as this team deserves better things,” Kaze shared.
Securing third place with 54 points from 29 matches, Chiefs close the season against Chippa United on May 23 at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Though proud of the progress, Kaze insists there is still work ahead to restore Amakhosi to the glory their fans expect.
