The highly anticipated clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, initially slated for Tuesday, April 30 at FNB Stadium, has undergone a significant scheduling alteration at the behest of the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
According to reports from The South African, the fixture between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns has been rescheduled to Thursday, May 2, still to be held at the FNB Stadium.
However, neither Kaizer Chiefs nor Mamelodi Sundowns have provided an official explanation for the postponement at this juncture.
An inside source revealed that the request for rescheduling emanated from the PSL.
Confirming the development, the source stated, “The Chiefs vs. Sundowns match will no longer take place on April 30.
Instead, it will be played on May 2 at the same venue.” Despite the certainty surrounding the rescheduled date, the reasons behind the PSL’s decision remain undisclosed.
The postponement news arrives amidst both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns gearing up for their forthcoming fixtures.
Kaizer Chiefs are set to host SuperSport United in a league encounter on Saturday, April 27, at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 p.m. GMT.
The Glamour Boys are facing mounting pressure to secure victories in their remaining matches of the season to bolster their chances of securing a spot in the top 8.
Kaizer Chiefs’ recent struggles on the pitch have been glaring, with the team failing to find the net in four consecutive league matches—a feat not witnessed since 2007, according to OptaJabu.
The club, under the tutelage of coach Johnson Cavin, currently occupies the 10th position in the league standings, amassing 30 points from 24 matches.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns have their sights set on a pivotal encounter against ES Tunis on Friday, as they gear up for the second leg of the CAF Champions League semi-finals.
The rescheduling of the fixture against Kaizer Chiefs adds a layer of complexity to their preparations as they aim to navigate through the challenging terrain of continental football.
