Kaizer Chiefs defender Xolani Cossa joins Gomora United on loan

Gauteng-based Gomora United have completed the signing of highly rated Kaizer Chiefs youngster Xolani Cossa on loan for the upcoming Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

The 22-year-old left-footed centre-back will spend the campaign with Gomora after Chiefs agreed a temporary move for the defender, who spent last season playing for Black Lions FC in the Botswana Premier League.

Cossa’s arrival gives Gomora another promising defensive option as they prepare for the new Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign. The transfer has been confirmed by the club’s chairman, Joe Seanego, who said the agreement with Kaizer Chiefs had been finalised.

“Gomora United FC has confirmed the completion of the signing of Xolani Cossa from Kaizer Chiefs,” Seanego told KickOff.

“He will be with Gomora United for one season on loan.

“Cossa is considered a top quality player. He is set to become the first player from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to represent the national team, and he is expected to set records.

“I was unable to sleep and worked overtime to secure his loan transfer.

“Despite having the option to join a team of his choice, he selected Gomora United because he perceives a future with the club.

“It is important to note that he has just signed a three-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs, which highlights his potential and future prospects,” adds the club boss.

The move comes after Kaizer Chiefs extended Cossa’s contract, ensuring that he remains part of the set-up at Naturena for the foreseeable future. His new three-year agreement underlines the Soweto club’s belief in his ability and long-term development.

Cossa’s previous loan spell saw him gain experience outside South Africa with Black Lions FC in Botswana. He now returns to the South African football structure with an opportunity to continue his progress at Gomora United.

Seanego said Cossa had been able to choose from other potential destinations but opted for Gomora because he believed the club could offer him a pathway forward. The chairman also expressed confidence that the defender could achieve a significant milestone by becoming the first player from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to represent the national team.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the arrangement provides Cossa with the chance to secure regular first-team football while remaining tied to the club. For Gomora, the loan represents a major addition ahead of the new season and reflects their ambition to strengthen their squad with emerging talent.

Cossa will represent Gomora United for one season before returning to Kaizer Chiefs, where he remains contracted until the conclusion of his newly extended three-year deal.
