Juan Bezerra set to return to Egypt soon, says Zamalek official

Juan Bezerra is expected to return to Egypt “very soon”, according to Zamalek football director Abdel Nasser Mohamed.

Mohamed said the Brazilian winger had not yet arrived in the country but was due to do so shortly, offering an update on the player’s absence as Zamalek prepare to begin their Egyptian Premier League campaign.

Speaking while attending the Egyptian Professional Players Association’s awards ceremony, Mohamed said: “Bezerra will be in Egypt soon. He has not arrived yet, but he will be in Egypt very soon.”

Bezerra was absent from the start of Zamalek’s preparations for the new league season. His non-appearance has now extended to 18 consecutive days since the squad returned to training.

Mohamed collected the award for the best right winger in the Egyptian Premier League for last season on Bezerra’s behalf. The presentation took place at the same event where he provided the latest information about the player’s expected return.

Zamalek are due to open their league campaign against Al Ittihad Alexandria on Friday. The match will be the club’s first fixture in the new Egyptian Premier League season, with Bezerra’s availability still dependent on his arrival in Egypt and return to the squad.

For now, the club’s football director has confirmed that the Brazilian remains expected to join the team soon, while also making clear that he had not reached Egypt at the time of his comments. His absence has therefore continued through the opening 18 days of Zamalek’s preparations.

The timing of Bezerra’s return comes as Zamalek approach their first competitive league match. The club will face Al Ittihad Alexandria on Friday in the opening round of the Egyptian Premier League, meaning the winger’s status remains a matter of focus ahead of the fixture.

Mohamed’s comments represent the latest update from Zamalek regarding Bezerra, whose prolonged absence began when he failed to report for the opening stage of the team’s preparations. Although the club official did not provide a specific arrival date, he repeated that the player would be in Egypt “very soon”.

The award received by Mohamed also underlined Bezerra’s standing at the club. Rather than the Brazilian accepting the prize for the previous Egyptian Premier League season himself, Mohamed collected it in his place during the Egyptian Professional Players Association ceremony.

Zamalek will now continue their preparations for Friday’s meeting with Al Ittihad Alexandria while waiting for Bezerra to return to Egypt. As things stand, the player has not yet arrived, but the club expects that situation to change shortly.
