Michael Olise transfer: How Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund to Crystal Palace star
Borussia Dortmund reportedly considered signing France international Michael Olise in the summer of 2024 before the attacking midfielder joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace.
According to German newspaper Bild, as reported on its podcast Dortmund Insider, Dortmund officials identified Olise as a suitable target who fitted the club’s sporting ambitions and long-term development plans.
However, the potential move failed to materialise after Bayern entered the race and secured his signature for a reported €53m transfer fee.
The revelation adds another layer of interest ahead of Saturday’s meeting between Dortmund and Bayern, with Olise now established as one of the reigning German giants’ most dangerous attacking players.
Dortmund unable to match Bayern’s offer
Dortmund reportedly viewed Olise as a player capable of making a significant contribution to the team, both through his performances and his potential for further development.
The Bundesliga club explored the possibility of bringing the then-Crystal Palace attacker to Germany in 2024, but financial considerations ultimately proved decisive.
According to Bild, Dortmund could not meet the reported €53m fee required to complete the transfer, allowing Bayern to win the race for the Frenchman.
Olise subsequently moved to Munich, where he has continued to strengthen his reputation as one of Europe’s leading attacking talents.
Olise’s rise at Bayern Munich
The 24-year-old has developed into a key attacking figure for Bayern since his arrival, with his performances attracting increasing recognition.
His market value is now estimated at €180m, while he also finished ninth in the most recent Ballon d’Or voting.
For Dortmund, the reported pursuit represents a transfer opportunity that did not come to fruition. For Bayern, securing Olise’s services has helped bring one of Europe’s highly regarded attacking players to Munich.
The two German clubs are now preparing to meet on Saturday, with Olise expected to be among the players Dortmund must watch closely.
