Ibrahim Maza opts to stay at Hertha Berlin amid Premier League interest
Hertha Berlin’s Ibrahim Maza has decided to remain with his club despite attracting significant interest from top European teams, including several Premier League sides. The 19-year-old Algerian midfielder’s performances in Bundesliga 2 this season have garnered attention, but he has chosen to prioritize stability for now.
According to German outlet Bild, Maza, who has scored four goals and provided three assists in 13 league matches this season, has dismissed the possibility of a winter transfer.
The Berlin-born talent fears that a mid-season move could disrupt his development and jeopardize his starting position, particularly as Hertha Berlin fights for promotion to the Bundesliga.
Premier League Interest
Maza’s impressive displays have not gone unnoticed, with scouts from Premier League clubs such as Newcastle United, Brentford, West Ham, Fulham, Wolverhampton, Southampton, and Leicester City reportedly attending his matches.
Newcastle, in particular, has shown a keen interest in acquiring the young playmaker.
However, the player has decided to stay put until at least the end of the current campaign, a decision aligned with Hertha Berlin’s promotion ambitions.
The club has also expressed a desire to retain Maza’s services for their push to return to Germany’s top flight, viewing him as a critical component of their plans.
No January Exit
Hertha Berlin had been open to the idea of a sale during the January transfer window but has since supported Maza’s decision to remain.
According to Bild, the club’s management believes that losing him mid-season could harm their promotion bid.
While a winter transfer is off the table, Maza’s name is likely to dominate discussions in the summer.
Currently tied to a €9 million release clause, Hertha Berlin is reportedly keen to renegotiate terms to better reflect his rising value, aiming for a figure closer to €20 million.
International and Club Success
Maza’s performances this season have also solidified his reputation at the international level.
After making his debut for Algeria in October during a friendly against Togo, the youngster continues to be seen as one of the brightest prospects for the Fennec Foxes.
For now, Ibrahim Maza remains focused on his role at Hertha Berlin, where his contributions will be vital as the club pushes for Bundesliga promotion.
His decision to stay demonstrates a commitment to growth and consistency, ensuring that any future move will be on his own terms.
