I cried a lot more than I did in my whole life – Mohamed Salah on Liverpool exit
Mohamed Salah has drawn the curtain on his Liverpool spell in deeply emotional fashion, revealing that his final goodbye to Anfield left him more overwhelmed than at any other point in his life.
The Egyptian forward marked his last appearance for Liverpool by contributing an assist in a 1-1 draw against Brentford on the final day of the season. The result secured a fifth-place finish for the Reds and confirmed qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Speaking to Sky Sports after a farewell ceremony in front of supporters at Anfield, Salah admitted the magnitude of the moment caught him off guard.
“I cried a lot. More than I have in my whole life,” he said. “Leaving a place like this is very difficult. Even at the training ground, it hit me emotionally.”
He added that his public image often hides a more sensitive side. “People usually see me as tough, but inside, I feel things deeply. It was a very hard goodbye.”
Salah also paid tribute to teammates departing alongside him, including Andy Robertson, praising the Scottish defender’s commitment and influence in the dressing room. He highlighted Robertson’s work ethic as a defining example of what supporters value most.
“This club demands everything,” Salah said. “Fans don’t just want results, they want effort, passion, and sacrifice. That is why players like Robertson are so loved.”
Reflecting on his time in England, the former AS Roma forward said he leaves with pride in both individual and collective achievements.
“I look back and feel we achieved everything we could. What matters most is the love from the supporters.”
Salah’s future remains uncertain, with ongoing speculation linking him to clubs across Europe and beyond. Reports have previously connected him with moves to AC Milan and a return to AS Roma, while interest has also been suggested from Fenerbahce and Rangers.
