Harry Kane and Bayern Munich begin talks over new contract

Harry Kane has confirmed that talks over a new Bayern Munich contract have begun, but the England captain says neither he nor the club is approaching the negotiations with any sense of panic.

The 33-year-old striker revealed the discussions had started after Bayern Munich opened their Bundesliga campaign with a convincing 5-1 home victory over Stuttgart.

“The first meeting started last week,” Kane told reporters.

Kane moved to Bayern Munich from Tottenham in 2023 and remains under contract until 2027. Although he acknowledged that there is still a significant amount to resolve, he said both parties were taking a measured approach to deciding his future.

“I’m 33. It’s probably going to be not my last contract, but it’s a big contract for me to sign,” Kane said.

“They need to make sure I’m happy. They obviously need to make sure they’re happy. There’s no panic from either side.

“I’m sure we’ll get to a point where both sides are happy.”

Bayern Munich have consistently indicated that they want Kane to stay beyond the end of his existing deal, after another exceptional season from the England captain.

Kane scored 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season as Bayern claimed the league and cup double. Across club and country, he finished the campaign with 73 goals, including six for England during their run to the World Cup semi-finals.

His performances have also placed him among the leading candidates for the Ballon d’Or, with the prestigious award due to be presented in London in October.

The timing of the initial talks comes after Kane began the new Bundesliga season in impressive fashion. Bayern’s five-goal victory over Stuttgart provided a strong start to their title defence and followed the striker’s outstanding contribution to the club’s previous campaign.

Kane’s current agreement means Bayern Munich do not face an immediate decision over his future, but the opening meeting marks the beginning of discussions over a potentially important next contract for both player and club.

For Kane, any new agreement would represent a major stage of his career at the age of 33. For Bayern Munich, retaining a forward who scored 36 league goals last season would preserve the focal point of a side that secured domestic success and remains among Europe’s leading clubs.

Despite the significance of the negotiations, Kane stressed that there was no disagreement between the two sides. He said the process would continue until an arrangement was reached that satisfied both him and Bayern Munich.
