Hansi Flick says Barcelona are chasing trophies, not records, after Getafe win

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick says his side’s priority is to win trophies rather than set new records after they beat Getafe 3-0 in the eighth round of the Spanish league at Camp Nou.

The victory maintained Barcelona’s perfect start to the season, taking them to 24 points from eight wins and leaving them at the top of the table. Getafe remain on eight points in 13th place.

Barcelona’s goals were scored by Anthony Gordon, Gabriel Jesus and Jules Kounde. Egypt international Hamza Abdelkarim came on in the 82nd minute, replacing Jesus.

Flick was pleased with the way Barcelona dealt with a difficult opponent and a return to action after a three-week break.

“Matches against Getafe are not easy because they are one of the best defensive teams, and it is not easy to create chances against them,” Flick said in comments reported by AS.

“Scoring in the first minute gave us confidence. It is not easy to come back after a break of three weeks, and we had to manage that situation. I am happy with the team’s performance.”

The German also discussed Lamine Yamal’s workload after the forward completed the full 90 minutes.

“I am not sure that he gave everything he had,” Flick said. “I asked him whether he wanted to play the whole match, but we have to manage his physical load.”

Flick was then asked about the possibility of Barcelona setting a record after extending their run to eight victories. He said the team was already focused on its next challenge, against Galatasaray.

“It is difficult, but we are concentrating on the next match, which is against Galatasaray, and it will not be easy,” he said.

The Barcelona manager praised the attitude of his squad and the atmosphere in training, saying the players were enjoying their work.

“Everyone has a great mentality, and it is wonderful to see the way we train. The players enjoy what they are doing,” he added.

Flick insisted, however, that Barcelona’s unbeaten winning run was not the main objective.

“We do not play to break records; we play to win matches,” he said. “The most important thing is always the next match. We want trophies, not records.”
