Hossam Hassan rejects reports of Egypt departure and says personal life should not shape football assessment

Egypt manager Hossam Hassan has dismissed reports that he could leave his post, saying he does not know who is behind the claims and insisting he remains focused on the national team’s upcoming commitments.

Several media reports suggested the Egyptian Football Association was considering removing Hassan despite Egypt’s achievement in reaching the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Those reports linked the uncertainty around his position to controversy over family matters, particularly after he was banned from making media appearances.

“I do not know who is promoting the news of my departure from the Egypt national team in this way,” Hassan said.

He questioned why his personal life had been brought into assessments of his work, arguing that personal disagreements could happen to anyone and should not be used to judge professional performance.

Hassan: judge me on my work

Hassan said he had avoided media statements for many years and had never previously discussed matters relating to his family.

He questioned why those issues were now being raised and connected to his responsibilities with the national team.

According to Telegraph Egypt, the manager said his record should be assessed through his technical work, his treatment of the players and the results achieved by Egypt, rather than through details of his private life.

He added that the main basis for judging any manager should be their work and commitment within the team structure, separate from personal matters unrelated to their football duties.

Hassan also reflected on Egypt’s recent campaign, saying he had not spoken publicly about the achievement after the squad returned from the United States of America.

He said a number of promising players had been identified and predicted they could play an important role in Egyptian football over the coming years.

Egypt prepare for Malawi qualifiers

Hassan revealed that preparations were under way for the next training camp. He said the national team director had met Hany Abou Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Association, to discuss arrangements for the next phase and establish plans for the upcoming commitments.

Egypt will play Malawi on 13 November and 17 November in the third and fourth rounds of qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Hassan calls for discipline

On discipline within the squad, Hassan said some players displayed different behaviour and performances when joining Egypt compared with their form for their clubs.

He said the coaching staff was working to impose discipline and use the players’ abilities in the most effective way, adding that successfully maintaining order within the team should not itself become a source of criticism.

Hassan also said clubs had a role and responsibility in managing their players so their abilities could be used to the greatest effect.

He concluded by stressing that a manager’s private life should be kept separate from their professional responsibilities, and that any coach should be judged by what they deliver on the pitch and their commitment to the job.
